A beautiful and unusual antique Victorian sterling silver Pietra Dura Floral Brooch.

Pietra Dura (Italian for "hard stone") refers to the use of hard stone inlaid into a backing to create a cohesive image. Here, the lighter polished pieces of stone have been skilfully cut and inlaid into a black base.

The image is gentle and delicate. The flower, possibly a lily, embodies the Victorian sentiment of innocence and loss. This brooch was likely a piece of sentimental or mourning jewellery for a young woman.

This brooch is in nice antique condition. There are small scuff marks to the surface that should come away when treated, and the locket could benefit from a polish. It has been left in as-found antique condition with some of the face of the brooch missing small chips where the paint has. Please be sure to see all of the photos.

This locket is not stamped, but has been tested as silver.

This would make a lovely Victorian sentimental jewellery gift. Includes a small safety chain and safety pin for secure fixture or possibly use as a pendant.

Approximate Dimensions:
Pendant Height - 4.5cm
