A fabulous antique sterling silver brooch commemorating the year in which Queen Victoria surpassed King George III to become Britain's longest reigning monarch.

The brooch features 2 coin-like images, one with the "Young Head" image of the queen, and one with the "Old Head", respectively dated 1837 and 1896.

Much royal souvenir jewellery for Victoria is dated 1837 and 1897, to mark the year of her Diamond Jubilee (60 years on the throne.) This piece instead has the dates 1837 and 1896. The text "Long has she reigned", also signifies that this piece is to commemorate the exceptional length of her rule.

This brooch is a sweet, solid silver collectable pieces of British royal memorabilia. There is a great level of detail to the pressed relief depictions of a crown and crossed sceptres. It would make a fine addition to a collection of memorabilia, or as a quirky, wearable antique brooch.

The brooch is of hollow construction.

In really nice antique condition. Please see all the photos.

The pin is base metal.

Stamped with UK Chester hallmarks to the reverse, 1896, along with a maker's mark for Turnbull Bros.
