An antique 1738 Spanish .917 silver Philip V 8 Reales coin, set in a vintage sterling silver bezel pendant mount.

The silver mount is stamped 'Treasure from "Hollandia" Sunk 1743'.

The Hollandia - a Dutch East India Company ship - was completed in 1742, and wrecked a year later in 1743. In 1971, an English attorney, Rex Cowan, discovered the shipwreck. A large amount of these coins were discovered, and so, in the 1970s, a number of pendants were set with the treasure.

Known as the Pillar Dollar, in reference to the pillars of Hercules to the reverse, the 8 Reales Spanish coin is the original pirate treasure referenced by "Piece of Eight", as popularised by Robert Louis Stevenson in Treasure Island.

An unusual, collectable piece. A pirate coin that has endured a pirate's life.

This pendant is in good vintage and antique condition. The coin is approximately Good Fine, considering the years spent underwater.
