A stunning antique sterling silver Mizpah sweetheart brooch.

Mizpah, Hebrew for "watchtower", was a popular sentiment in Victorian jewellery, denoting love and friendship, and the hope that God would watch over the beloved as they embarked on a journey. This sweetheart brooch is also inscribed with this wish to one heart.

With the further symbolism of ivy leaves (for "clinging",) and love hearts.

The bow has only one tail, but this might be original.

Stamped with Chester hallmarks for sterling silver to the reverse. The date mark is obscured, but likely 1900.

In really nice antique condition. Please see all of the photos.
