A fun pair of antique or true vintage Ancient Order of Froth Blowers cufflinks, with blue enamel lettering and border.

Each member received a pair of these silver and enamel cufflinks, which they were expected to wear to every meeting.

With the hilarious intention of fostering "the noble art and gentle and healthy pastime of froth blowing amongst Gentlemen of-leisure and ex-Soldiers" (i.e. a boy's club dedicated to blowing froth off beer,) the Ancient Order of Froth Blowers was a comical charitable organisation established in 1924 by Herbert Longdale Temple. The original aim was to raise money for the children's charities of Sir Alfred Fripp, a surgeon who had previously given Temple life-saving surgery.

Under their (relevant) motto of "Lubrication in Moderation", the Order grew dramatically and far surpassed its charitable goal, apparently achieving £100,000 in donations by 1928, against a target of just £100.

The Order ran until 1931, and provided charitable aid to a great number of British children. It lives on in their philanthropic ventures, their novelty pieces of memorabilia, and a catchy song about being with friends.

These cufflinks are stamped for silver to the reverse, along with a maker's mark.

In nice, vintage condition. There is some wear to the enamel of one. Please be sure to see all of the photos.

These would make a brilliantly fun gift, or a wonderful addition to a collection of antique novelty.
