An incredible antique 18ct gold double headed snake ring, with each head set with a purple garnet stone.

The band appears coiled, complete with two tails, to indicate the two snakes. The gemstones are set in mounts carved to look like tulip flowers, and each is accentuated by delicate gold granulations.

This is an exquisite example, in amazing antique condition. The detail is crisp and sharp, and there are only light scratches throughout. The band could also do with some minor reshaping.

Snakes gained prominence in Victorian jewellery, as the coiled ouroboros symbol signified enduring love and eternity. Prince Albert even chose a snake ring for his proposal to Queen Victoria herself. The two matching stones in this ring signify the joining of two souls.

This ring would make a fine addition to any collection, or a romantic engagement ring.

This piece has UK hallmarks (two sets) to the inside, along with a maker's mark. The date mark is for 1920.

Each stone measures approximately 2.5mm in diameter.

The ring band measures approximately 0.9cm at the widest.
